Most organizations use Dynamic IP allocation, known as DHCP, where the device receives its IP address automatically from the server. This operation is transparent to the user, Thus, when the computer is connected - either a desktop or a laptop - it receives the IP address without the need for anything to be activated. However, when using security systems, a server DVR or any other device requiring remote login, it is not recommended to use DHCP, since IP addresses may change without notification, thus preventing remote login. Therefore, for those devices, it is highly recommended to use static IP allocation, so that the IP will remain constant. |
